About

The India in 2047 National Case Contest - Business Plan Challenge 2024 is a first of its kind business plan competition for college students which inspires and encourages ideation and entrepreneurship. Students from Colleges across India present their ideas apart from meeting and receiving feedback from experienced industry leaders and seasoned entrepreneurs.

The contest aims to bring together the country's top business, management, technology and accounting students offering them a great opportunity to showcase their business & entrepreneurial skills. Such skills are relevant in the context of emerging business models. We give our participants, the business leaders of tomorrow’s India, the chance to interact with fellow students, cultivate a powerful network, engage with industry experts, and business gurus from various domains.

The Challenge

This challenge is open for students in Management, Engineering, accounting, finance and business backgrounds from across India.

This competition is based on the ideas covered in the book "India in 2047 – The amazing rise of a modern nation"

Students must read the book "India in 2047". One copy of the book will be sent at free of cost to each registered team.

The book is with contributions from 25 writers, who were by mentored by 25 experts. The foreword to the book was by Dr Devi Shetty, Chairman, Narayana Hirudhayalaya and the First Word is by Sridhar Vembu, Founder, Zoho.

The possibilities of some of futuristic areas for entrepreneurship are discussed in the book “India in 2047”.

Students can must pick up any of the many ideas contained in the book.

For example, the chapter on “mobility” talks about flying cars; and the chapter on “home” talks about 3D printed home, which can be a potential idea for a business plan in this challenge.

The First Round will be a written business plan writing challenge.

The Second Round will be the regional finals, where selected teams will present their plan to the Jury followed by Q&A.

The Third Round will be a grand finale , where the finalists will present their pitch to the Jury and the audience, followed by Q&A.

The Regional Winners and National Winners will recieve certificates, awards and cash prizes. All teams will recieve participation certificate.

Rounds

Round 1 :
Written Business
Plan

The written business plan must be submitted electronically in PDF format to the organisers, which will be evaluated by the panel of judges. The Finalists will be selected and announced for their preparation for the pitch presentation in Round 2 – Regional Level.

Round 2 :
Pitch Presentation in Regional Level

The Finalists will prepare a 10 minutes pitch for the regional level round in front of judges and live audience in four Regions across India including Delhi-NCR, Pune, Chennai/Bangalore and Kolkata/Bhubaneshwar

Round 3 :
Pitch Presentation in National Grand Finale

The National Finalists will prepare a 10 minutes pitch for the National level round in front of judges and live audience in Chennai.

Eligibility Requirements

  • The Challenge is open to full time college students of India from any discipline including Management, Finance, Engineering and Technology.
  • The team size should not exceed two members, and team must be from the same institution. Multi-disciplinary teams are encouraged.
  • The objective of the business plan competition is to promote marketable business and social enterprise ideas that have the potential to attract funding, launch, and prosper.
  • Each student on the team should be involved from the concept through the development of the business plan.

Business Plan Format

File Format & Length

A printable PDF file. Limit your plan to twelve (12) pages, including a two-page executive summary. The page limit includes the cover page and single table of contents page. The written plan may include an Appendix with up to four additional pages.

Page Format

Single-spacing with one-inch margins and 12-point Times New Roman font. This line spacing and font requirement apply to the document's textual content, not to titles and descriptions accompanying pictures, graphs, tables, or worksheets. All pages must be numbered, excluding the cover page.

Cover Page

Must include the title, the team members, the team code (provided on registration) and contact information for each team member. The contact information should consist of an e-mail address and a phone number.

Financial Data

Financial data should be summarized and highlighted in the written plan, supporting details, and spreadsheet information in the Appendix. Startup costs and how the investment will be used, along with income and cash flow statements, are appropriate.

Written Business Plan criteria (100 points Max)

In Round 1, teams are evaluated based on a written business plan.

  • Viability – The venture is implementable, realistic, and viable (20)
  • Market opportunity – Show the market potential of the proposed venture exists and your method for taking advantage of it (15)
  • Competitive advantage – The business has a unique, novel, or distinct approach, which gives it an advantage (15)
  • Management capability – Team can effectively develop the venture and handle the tasks necessary for its success (15)
  • Innovation – Teams has developed an innovative solution to an existing or emerging problem (15)
  • Financial understanding – Team has a good understanding of the financial requirements of the venture (15)

Based on the strength of the written plan, finalists will be selected to compete in Round 2.

Presentation Round criteria (100 points Max)

  • Clear explanation of the product/service and persuasiveness of the oral presentation/pitch (10)
  • Quality of the responses to questions from the judges (10)
  • Venture viability (10)
  • A clear statement of the problem/opportunity (customer pain) and solution (includes value proposition and customer pain you are eliminating) (20)
